HEALTH DEPARTMENT STAFF ACTS AS SECRET SANTAS FOR HILLCREST RESIDENTS

The Henry and Stark County Health Departments' and the Henry County Health Board are pleased to announce the 2011 Health Department Employee Service Award recipients.

HEALTH DEPARTMENT CONDUCTS FIRST KEWANEE FLU CLINIC AND NOTES FLU SHOTS STILL AVAILABLE

Ann Jetel, LPN (left) a nurse with the Henry and Stark County Health Departments gives Donna Tucker of Kewanee a seasonal flu shot at the Flu Clinic held recently at the Kewanee National Guard Armory. The final Kewanee Flu Clinic will be held on Thursday, October 13th from 9:00am-10:30am at Union Federal Savings and Loan. The Henry and Stark County Health Departments remind area residents that they are still conducting Fall Flu Clinics at various sites throughout the area. These clinics are for adults 18 years of age and older only. In addition, a schedule of area School Based Children's clinics are being conducted. HEALTH DEPARTMENT OFFERS SPECIAL 'FACES OF HOMECARE' PROGRAM TO AREA GROUPS AND ORGANIZATIONS

The staff of the Henry and Stark County Health Departments asks, "Are you looking for an entertaining and informative program for your next club or organization's meeting." If so, then the Health Department Home Health Services Division presents, "The Faces of Homecare."

RaeAnn Tucker-Marshall, Public Information Director with the Henry and Stark County Health Departments notes, "Everyday each of us assumes a different role. We may be a concerned child, a devoted spouse, a frazzled family member, or overwhelmed caregiver. 'The Faces Homecare' is a presentation that addresses the most common scenarios when looking at the process of aging and Home Health option of care."

Tucker-Marshall adds, "We invite audience members to listen carefully as the characters take a sometimes light-hearted, serious, funny, entertaining, and thoughtful look at this important subject and give many excellent reasons for considering home care services. You will meet Messy Marvin, Long-Distance Lily, Respite Rita, Overwhelmed Opal and Forgetful Florence.

The presentation is offered free-of-charge and can be tailor-made to meet any group's specific needs.

RaeAnn Tucker-Marshall, Public Information Director with the Henry and Stark County Health Departments shines a special black light on the hands of Ava LaFollette and Marissa Stevens of Mrs. Kirkham's Kindergarten class at Belle Alexander. The light shows areas where students could improve on their handwashing. The Health Department has been visiting area schools to instruct local children on the importance of handwashing and other ways they can stay healthy and cold and flu free. FAMILY PLANNING SERVICES

The Henry and Stark County Health Departments remind area residents of their Family Planning clinic program.

Through the family planning clinic program, the Health Department hopes to give women the information and means they need to plan pregnancies and make responsible decisions. The program also hopes to detect other health problems early in their development so that clients can be referred to other health care providers for treatment.

Clinics are held at the Health Department office. Appointments, which are necessary, may be made by contacting the Health Department.

The family planning program provides annual physical exams to area women, including a breast exam and pap smear.

The clinic accepts medicaid payments and private pay. A sliding fee scale, based on the client's income, had been established to assist low-income families to obtain services. In addition, grant funds are available for those who meet certain eligibility requirements.

In addition to contraceptive services, the clinic also offers pregnancy testing.

HEALTH DEPARTMENT STAFF OFFERS AREA GROUPS A VARIETY OF PRESENTATIONS

The staff of the Henry and Stark County Health Departments reminds area residents planning a program for a local club or organization; that the Department staff is available to speak on a variety of health topics, and the services offered to area residents through their offices.

RaeAnn Tucker-Marshall, Health Department Director of Public Information, notes that "presentations on Health Department programs and awareness, home health and homemaker services, breast cancer awareness, advanced directives, nutrition, women's health, heart health, influenzae and its prevention, cholesterol and blood pressure control; and prostate and cervical cancers, just to name a few, are offered free-of-charge."

Tucker-Marshall adds, "Presentations can be tailor-made to meet any group's specific needs. Many presentations include informative handouts and entertaining videos. All information can be altered to the age and interests of the audience."
